MMS Scandal pushed a teen to commit suicide

An 18-year-old schoolgirl and her paramour allegedly committed suicide after video clippings of her kissing a classmate were posted on the Internet, police said on Saturday.

The girl, a student of Class XII at a school in Kannur, and a 27-year-old plumber, who is believed to be her boyfriend, were found hanging from a tree at the latter's residence, police said.

The video of the girl kissing a classmate was recorded by another student with a mobile phone camera a few days ago and was found uploaded on the Internet. The clipping was also circulated as MMS, they said.

The student, who had taken the mobile phone to an Internet cafe for copying the video on to a CD, has been arrested following a complaint by the school's Parent Teachers Association.

Meanwhile, the girl's family said she went missing since Friday night.

The girl was wearing a 'mangalsutra' and a vermilion mark on her forehead, traditional symbols sported by married Hindu women, when the bodies were found this morning.

The school had since banned use of mobile phone by students.
