Fall in Violence rate in J&K but Infiltration worries--PC

Kashmir has witnessed reduction in number of incidents of violence last year which was a "silver lining", but infiltration attempts have gone up, Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.

"Infiltration has not reduced. Incidents of violence have reduced...and I attribute it to Army, paramilitary and Jammu and Kashmir police," he said.

The policy that Jammu and Kashmir police should take the lead has been successful, the minister told women journalists during an interaction here.

AP Govt warns of Naxals in Telangan movement

Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday claimed Maoists have infiltrated into the movement for a separate Telangana state as the Supreme Court stayed the State High Court's direction for withdrawal of paramilitary forces from Osmania University campus, the hotbed of the agitation.

However, Justice Singhvi, who heads a two-member bench of the apex court, said "I don't think there are any Naxalites in the university."

Abducted BDO released by Maoists

Abducted Dalbhumgarh BDO Prashant Kumar Layak was released by the Maoists on Friday after 5 days of captivity.

The officer was found near Hariyan village near Orissa-Jharkhand border.

The report was confirmed by Jharkhand Home Secretary J B Tubid.

The Jharkhand government was under tremendous pressure from the opposition for the safe release of the government official.

Indian Shooters dominates 10m air rifle team event in Commonwealth Championship

Gagan Narang and PT Raghunath set a new record in the 10m air rifle team event as Indian shooters dominated the proceedings with two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze medal on the opening day of the Commonwealth Championship in New Delhi.

Narang was the star of the day as he shot 599 out of 600, whichhelped Team India to win its first gold medal in the championship. Raghunath shot 594/600 to take the team score to an aggregate of 1193 points, breaking the previous championship record of 1183 points set by Narang and Manoj Kumar in 2005.
