Indian vehicle sales will up by 12% by March'11 - SIAM

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) is hoping that the passenger car market will witness a 12-13 percent growth in sales for the year ending March 2011.

Due to favourable factors like the rising income, easy access to finance and new launches in the next six months, the increase of cars will hit an all-time high of 22 lakh units.

The current statistics clearly indicate the promising growth of the car market. During the first quarter of 2010-2011, Indian auto market saw a growth of 33 percent as 5.54 lakh units of cars were sold.

This remarkable growth could pave way for the passenger car market to go beyond the 30 lakh units even before 2016. This forecast is done by the Indian Government under its 10-year Automotive Mission Plant.

SIAM president Pawan Goenka said the industry had benefited from improved economic environment in the first quarter. He also mentioned that as ll the macro-economic conditions head towards robust demand, the sales will continue to increase in the forthcoming months.

On a bird's eye view, are the Indian roads large enough to accomodate so many new vehicles that our people keep on purchasing every year? Already the over crowded city roads have force the local traffic police department to make so may "One ways".

Hence, the infrastructure in metros as well in sub-urban and rural areas must be developed alongside. Otherwise, people will be spending most of their life time in traffic signals.
