Corruption King Ketan Desai sent on judicial custody

A Delhi court today remanded MCI president Ketan Desai and three others to 13-day judicial custody after their arrest for allegedly taking bribe to allow a medical college in Punjab to admit students despite lack of infrastructure.

Additional Sessions Judge O P Saini sent them to jail till May 14 after the CBI told that their custodial interrogation was no more required in the investigation of the case.

Meanwhile, Desai moved his bail application in the court which has been fixed for hearing on May 3.

Earlier, the court allowed the CBI to interrogate Mr Desai and three others in view of their alleged non—cooperation in the probe.

Desai, alleged middleman J P Singh and doctors Sukhwinder Singh and Kanwaljit Singh of Patiala—based Gyan Sagar Medical College, have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act dealing with inducing a public servant to accept bribe, criminal misconduct and payment of money.

Based on contents of intercepted telephonic calls made among the accused, the CBI had laid a trap outside the South Delhi residence of J P Singh, which led to his arrest and that of Kanwaljit on April 22.
