Abducted BDO released by Maoists

Abducted Dalbhumgarh BDO Prashant Kumar Layak was released by the Maoists on Friday after 5 days of captivity.

The officer was found near Hariyan village near Orissa-Jharkhand border.

The report was confirmed by Jharkhand Home Secretary J B Tubid.

The Jharkhand government was under tremendous pressure from the opposition for the safe release of the government official.

Chief Minister Shibu Soren drew flak from all parties for his yesterday’s decision of withholding action against the Maoists for release of the BDO.

The Maoists had kidnapped Layek on Saturday and had set some conditions to set him free. They had extended the deadline for the fulfillment of their demands twice over the week but had maintained complete silence since yesterday after the state government had agreed to give in to their demands.
