Vodafone's cheapest Phone to cost Rs.849 in India

After months of waiting, Vodafone as launched the much awaited Rs.700 phone in India starting May 5.

The phone, the cheaper one amongst the two low-cost handsets goes by the name Vodafone 150. The interesting thing about this launch is that the phone is not network locked - in spite of being sold by Vodafone. Vodafone, however, offers free connections and low calling rates for users who purchase the phone and use a Vodafone SIM.

As of now, Vodafone bundles the phone in its "MagicBox" themed all in one solution where you get a new connection along with a new phone.

Here is what Vodafone will offer should you buy the phone in Maharashtra/Goa:

    * Prepaid card with lifelong validity : Free
    * Lifelong validity : upto December 18, 2015
    * Talktime worth Rs. 10 : Free
    * Callertune for 30 days : Free
    * Vodafone Alerts for 30 days : Free Regional and National news

Calls to local Vodafone mobile phones would be charged at 30p/min, to other local mobile phones the charges would go up to50p/min. As for local landline phones, you'd need to pay Re 1/min for 30 days. The plan also includes 50 free mins of Nightspeak (from 11 pm to 7 am) to local Vodafone mobile phones - again, valid for 30 days.

As for the features of the phone, it is not at all bad for the money you pay. The phone offers expected voice and SMS services and packs in quite a few features you wouldn't expect in such a low-priced phone. The 150 supports mobile payment services, has a miniUSB connector, alarm clock, a torch, calculator a currency converter; 2 embedded games; and memory for up to100 entries in phonebook plus SMS storage. Not bad for a sub-1k phone! The battery is rated at 500mAh and offers standby time up to 400hrs and talk time up to 5hrs.

Just to add, the total cost of the phone would go up to almost Rs. 849 when you buy it.
