Student Cheated in Anna University campus by a Person pretending to be a employee

student was allegedly relieved of Rs.2.5 lakh cash by a stranger who promised to get him an engineering seat in Anna University.

According to police sources, D. Deekshit (19) of Tiruchi came here on May 3 to purchase an application form for admissions to engineering courses in Anna University. The suspect, introducing himself as Rishi Kanth, picked a conversation with the student near the campus and offered to help in getting a seat.

When Deekshit said he preferred Aeronautical Engineering, he said it would cost him Rs.5 lakh. Pretending to be an employee of the varsity, the suspect said Deekshit had to give a token advance and then pay the full cash.

After consulting his parents, the student agreed to the offer.

On May 10 he gave Rs.25,000 as token advance and a week later he gave Rs.2.25 lakh as first instalment. The accused said the seat was confirmed and Deekshit had to pay the balance to get an official allotment letter. On Wednesday Deekshit came with Rs.2.5 lakh and tried to meet Rishi. University authorities told him that there was no such employee.

The address given by the accused in Velachery was found fake. His mobile phone was switched off. A special team of the Kotturpuram police has been formed to investigate the case, the sources added.

Investigators said they were following a specific clue that could lead to the detection of the case soon. “The victim has taken a photograph of the accused in his mobile phone. Preliminary enquiries reveal that the suspect is an engineering college student. It appears that more than one person could have operated,” a police official said.

Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said policemen in plainclothes would be deployed around the campus during the admission period to keep tabs on touts and anti-social elements.
