Delhi Govt want Afzal guru to be hanged

Delhi government has backed death for Afzal Guru, sentenced in the Parliament attack case, sources.

Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the file on Afzal Guru's mercy petition has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

"The letter goes from one department to the other. Neither the ministry writes it nor do I receive it. Moreover, that file has already gone," said the chief minister.

The Home Ministry had reportedly pulled up Delhi government for not responding to a letter on Afzal Guru's mercy petition. The ministry had written to the Delhi government on the mercy petition, which has been pending with the government since 2006.

A similar notice was sent in August 2005 in which the President sought the MHA's views. The ministry, in turn, sought the opinion of the Delhi Government as the comments of the government of the state where the crime has been committed are sought before deciding a mercy petition.

However, Delhi Chief Minister on Monday had said that she was not aware of any letter sent by the Union Home Ministry seeking her government's comments on the mercy petition filed by Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
