M F Husain - a Quatar citizen - no more an Indian.

Indeed a sad day for India as Qatar has welcomed MF Husain, one of India's greatest artist.

Since 2006, when the Hindutva hate campaign against him escalated, the artist has been living in Dubai, spending his summers in London.

Husain has been conferred Qatar nationality - something that is very rarely given. The artist told this to The Hindu from Dubai, early on Wednesday morning.

India does not allow dual citizenship, even though there is the 'Overseas Indian Citizen' category. Husain will no doubt seek to acquire OIC status after completing the due procedures.

It is important to note that MF Husain did not apply for Qatar nationality.

Meanwhile RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has once again reiterated a position taken by many, who view Husain's work as vulgar. He said even in a democracy freedom has its limit.
