Tata Teleservices on Thursday supported telecom regulator TRAI on kick-starting the process for 4G mobile telephony, saying it would
help India to come out with high-end services in line with the advanced countries.
"About 23 operators will be launching 4G by 2010. The 3G was launched in 2001 and we are already nine years behind. It should not happen also in 4G you become nine years behind," TTSL MD Anil Sardana said.
The 4G, known as the ultra-broadband, offers download at faster speed and high definition video on demand, among other services.
Asked whether the company is comfortable in skipping 3G, Sardana said, "Why not...In that case it clearly means that we catch up with the world. 4G is a good interesting thing to evaluate for the simple reason that the World is already launching 4G."
The telecom regulator TRAI has already issued a pre-consultation paper for the same.
